Many have heard stories of psychics and such visiting the White House, home to U.S. Presidents since 1800. The first President to occupy the White House was President John Adams in 1800, however, the construction of the White House was yet to be completed at that time. The British set fire to the ‘President’s House’ during the War of 1812. It was not until 1817 that the majority of the White House was rebuilt and President James Monroe returned to the Presidential home. It was none other than George Washington, who would become the first President of The United States who selected the site for the White House in 1791. So it seems appropriate to begin our series of articles on psychics and such with founding father and first President, George Washington.
It was in 1859 that a unusual news article appeared, an interview of Anthony Sherman who had fought along side (and was a close confidant of) George Washington. Anthony Sherman revealed that during the darkest hour of the Revolutionary War (when George Washington was forced to retreated to Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, in 1777) that Washington had what can only be called a paranormal experience. You can call it a psychic vision; or an encounter with an angel, spirit guide or ghost; or an act of God; but whatever it was, the experience left George Washington clearly shaken. It also convinced him that the colonists would prevail and that the United States would not only be created (something that was in question at the time) but that this new nation would survive and thrive.
George Washington confided in Anthony Sherman that a mysterious woman suddenly appeared in his personal tent. When challenged, the woman only stared at Washington and her stare seem to freeze him in place. The woman said ‘Son of the Republic, look and learn’ and began revealing the future of a new nation, the United States, and the challenges it would face. In brief, Washington was shown that the United States would eventually extend from the Atlantic ocean to the Pacific ocean. And, that the United States would become heavily populated with ‘villages and towns and cities springing up one after another until the whole land from the Atlantic to the Pacific was dotted with them’.
It was also revealed to Washington that the U.S. would face 3 significant challenges. Based on the descriptions, one challenge seems to indicate the Civil War, another might be interpreted as World Wars 1 and 2, and the last would seem to indicate some sort of invasion of the United States where the citizens nearly lose the fight if not for divine intervention. When the visions concluded Washington told Anthony Sherman, ‘… I started from my seat, and felt that I had seen a vision wherein had been shown me the birth, progress, and destiny of the United States’.
What is remarkable is that in 1777 at Valley Forge George Washington’s army had little food, many did not have shoes, and surviving the winter seemed uncertain. In fact, the whole idea that the Continental army would win the Revolutionary was in doubt. Out of Washington’s 10,000 man army, over 2,500 would die of disease and exposure at Valley Forge.
After Washington’s vision, he found the will to hold his fighting force together and train them in new tactics. When Washington emerged from Valley Forge to begin his fight anew, the whole complexion of the Revolutionary war had changed: The French joined the Americans as allies and the Spanish and Dutch had begun their own assault on England’s interested. But, perhaps the biggest factor in the war was George Washington’s will and ‘vision’ to hold his army together at Valley Forge so they could march back to New York and bring victory for the United States in 1783. One has to wonder: How pivotal was George Washington’s paranormal vision during that winter in 1777 at Valley Forge.
