I was in excruciating pain, and nothing I tried seemed to help.<\/p>\n

It was only after I opened my mind to the metaphysical meaning of my illness\u00a0that I was able to heal.<\/p>\n

I Used To Be Healthy<\/h2>\n

Growing up, I was always very healthy and athletic.<\/p>\n

I played soccer and swam\u00a0every summer at the beach with my family. I loved to be outside running and riding my bicycle.<\/p>\n

I went to the doctor for typical health issues: I broke my leg skiing once, \u00a0but I healed quickly.<\/p>\n

Everything changed when I turned 45.<\/p>\n

Midlife Crisis?<\/h2>\n

When I was 45 years old, I started experiencing terrible headaches.<\/p>\n

I thought it must have been a problem with my eyeglasses, \u00a0so I got a new prescription. \u00a0That did not seem to help<\/p>\n

As the headaches grew\u00a0worse, I tried different doctors. I had CT scans\u00a0and Xrays. We ruled out many possibilities like cancer and Lyme disease. But no medicine\u00a0or treatment seemed to help.<\/p>\n

The pain seemed to spread, from my head to my spine. \u00a0Physical exercise\u00a0became a problem. Even walking\u00a0caused pain.<\/p>\n

I was miserable and my family\u00a0knew it. I was\u00a0no fun to be around.<\/p>\n

Metaphysical\u00a0Malady<\/h2>\n

After months of suffering, I was at the end of my rope. I was in danger of losing my job from taking so many sick days.<\/p>\n

Finally, a friend of mind asked, “Have you thought about the\u00a0metaphysical meaning of your pain?”<\/p>\n

I was shocked and upset. Did she think I was faking it? My pain was very real.<\/p>\n

I could not imagine that it was “all in my head.”<\/p>\n

Luckily, my\u00a0friend was patient with my skepticism. \u00a0She started to steer me to look in a different direction to solve my problems.<\/p>\n

Eastern vs. Western Approaches to Pain<\/h2>\n

After doing a little research<\/a>, I realized that I had been looking to Western medicine to explain my health problems. I was looking to fix my body without fixing my soul.<\/p>\n

Doctors in the United States and the Western world think that a pill or invasive procedures like surgery are the cure to everything that ails us.<\/p>\n

However, for thousands of years, people\u00a0all over the world have taken different approaches.<\/p>\n

Practitioners of holistic medicine\u00a0think pain is a way the body has of processing trauma or grief.<\/p>\n

Maybe my pain was not the result of a cancerous cell or a skeletal abnormality.<\/p>\n

Maybe I had to look deeper inside for the answer.<\/p>\n

Exploring My Options: Books<\/h2>\n

I was afraid to talk to people about the metaphysical meaning behind my physical pain. But I was brave enough to go to the library.<\/p>\n

By reading books on ancient Chinese medicine\u00a0and other alternatives, I started to appreciate other methods for approaching illness.<\/p>\n

I also started to see that I had more control over my\u00a0body and my existence than I thought.<\/p>\n

I found comfort in books like Louise Hay’s\u00a0‘You Can Heal Your Life<\/a>.” I began to see that I did not have to hand my body over to a doctor to find healing.<\/p>\n

Starting with books, \u00a0I educated myself on alternate therapies. I also found a community of people<\/a> who could share their experiences with me.<\/p>\n

I was no longer alone in my pain. That was the first step to getting well.<\/p>\n

Each Body Part Holds A\u00a0Different Metaphysical Meaning<\/h2>\n

Studies<\/a> show that pain in different parts of the body\u00a0can each have a separate metaphysical meaning.<\/p>\n

Headaches can signal the pain of separating from truth. I learned that my pain in my forehead signified a problem with my Third Eye, \u00a0or my ability to look inward. I was separated from my own inner truth.<\/p>\n

Pain in the skull can also mean you have trouble being who you really are.<\/p>\n

Back pain represents the inability to move forward or reconcile the past with what is to come. The Chinese call our backs our “yang” sides.<\/p>\n

I was fortunate to find practitioners of Western medicine who explained these ancient tenets to me.<\/p>\n

By reaching out to others I began to learn more about how what had happened in my life was manifesting in my body.<\/p>\n

Alternative Therapies<\/h2>\n

Once I let go of the idea that Western medicine held the only answers, a whole world opened up to me.<\/p>\n

Through Reiki, I was able to open channels of energy to address the pain in my head and in my back.<\/p>\n

Acupuncture also helped to release my Ch’i, and access the pain I had been holding in my heart since my parents died.<\/p>\n

I started to work with crystals,<\/a> which gave me relief as well.<\/p>\n

My physical pain began to ebb because I was paying attention to the metaphysical meaning of my distress.<\/p>\n

Alternative therapies helped me to let go of many issues from my past which was holding me back mentally and physically.<\/p>\n

At age 55 I am now able to enjoy the many physical activities I enjoyed as a young person like swimming, bicycling and walking.<\/p>\n

But I feel even better now because my metaphysical health has improved too.<\/p>\n

Look Beyond The Physical<\/h2>\n

Looking back now, I wish I had found the answer sooner.<\/p>\n

My disabling headaches and back pain were causing irreparable damage to my job, my relationships, and my soul. \u00a0The pain was causing me to lose everything I valued in life.<\/p>\n

By deciding to seek the metaphysical meaning behind my pain, a new world was opened up to me.<\/p>\n

Not only did my physical health improve, \u00a0but my whole life got better too.<\/p>\n

I thank my friend for initially pointing out to me that my problem was not in my body but in my soul.<\/p>\n

If you are in pain, you are not alone.<\/p>\n

If you have not found solutions from Western doctors, pills, and surgeries, \u00a0do not give up hope.<\/p>\n
